A Look at The Financial Times Global MBA Rankings 2015

The Financial Times 2015 global MBA rankings   were released this morning. Let’s see how our top schools fared this year†¦ Top 25 2015 Global MBA Programs (last year’s rank in parentheses) 1. Harvard Business School, USA (1) 2. London Business School, UK (3) 3. UPenn Wharton, USA (4) 4. Stanford GSB, USA (2) 5. INSEAD, France/Singapore (5) 6. Columbia Business School, USA (5) 7. IESE, Spain (7) 8. MIT Sloan, USA (8) 9. Chicago Booth, USA (9) 10. UC Berkeley Haas, USA (11) 11. CEIBS, China (17) 12. IE Business School, Spain (13) 13. Cambridge Judge, UK (16) 14. HKUST, China (14) 15. Northwestern Kellogg, USA (15) 16. HEC Paris, France (21) 17. Yale SOM, USA (10) 18. NYU Stern, USA (17) 19. ESADE Business School, Spain (22) 20. IMD, Switzerland (12) 21. Duke Fuqua, USA (17) 22. Oxford Saà ¯d, UK (23) 23. Dartmouth Tuck, USA (20) 24. Michigan Ross, USA (23) 25. UCLA Anderson, USA (26) The big news is how little the top 10 changed. More significant movement occurred outside the top 10, as is typical of most rankings. Here are some highlights: †¢Ã‚  New to the top 10 in 2015 is UC Berkeley Haas which climbed one spot from 11th place last year to 10th place this year. †¢Ã‚  Yale SOM, on the other hand, lost its top-10 berth and fell 7 places from 10th place last year to 17th place this year. †¢Ã‚  Big jumpers in the top 25 include HEC Paris which moved from 21st place in 2014 to 16th place in 2015, and CEIBS which jumped from 17th place last year to 11th this year. †¢Ã‚  IMD fell 8 slots this year from 12th place to 20th place. For possible reasons behind the drop, please see â€Å"5 Key IMD Officials Resign.† †¢Ã‚  7 of the top 10 business schools in 2015 are programs in the USA, which is the same number as last year. †¢Ã‚  This is the third year in a row that Harvard Business School snagged the first place position. †¢Ã‚  Further down the rankings (top 50), we see more big jumpers, including Imperial College Business School (UK) which jumped from 49th place in 2014 to 34th place this year; Manchester Business School (UK) which went from 43rd to 35th place; The Lisbon MBA (Portugal) which jumped from 52nd to 36th place; and Lancaster University Management School (UK) which jumped from 77th place to 50th place. †¢Ã‚  The school that fell the most in the top 50 was Warwick Business School (UK) which fell from 25th place in 2014 to 38th place in 2015. †¢Ã‚  Overall the FT rankings reflect the growing strength of Asian and European business schools. The Financial Times rankings measure average salaries of alumni along with several other factors. Its lead article on the rankings notes that â€Å"the financial returns from completing a full-time MBA have fallen over the past three years and while a graduate can still expect to nearly double their salary, the average boost to earnings is down by almost a third from the qualification’s heyday.† It continues to explain that this is particularly true among b-schools in the U.S. (which account for 50 of the top 100 global programs). For an excellent critique of the FT methodology, please see PQ’s analysis. Here are some additional highlights from that article: †¢Ã‚  In 2015, MBAs who were three years post-MBA reported salary increases of 92%. This is compared to 110% in 2012 and 153% in 2002 and 2003. †¢Ã‚  In 2003, b-school alumni from 82% of programs ranked saw salary increases of more than 120% over 4-5 years post-MBA. This year, only 7% saw the equivalent increase. †¢Ã‚  A factor contributing to this trend is the drop in MBAs heading into finance and banking (25% in 2015 compared to 29% in 2005). Survey respondents from the finance sector reported an average salary of $152,000 compared to the overall average salary of respondents of $133,000. My take: In terms of the flaws in the FT rankings, I suggest you see Poets Quants excellent critique. I also suggest you read â€Å"Boost to earning from MBAs falls.† The article reflects on the decline in earnings increase from the MBA as well as the weakness in the graduate business education market outside the top tier. The two are related. Grads from the top business schools by definition snag the highest salaries and sometimes the biggest increase in salaries. The lower ranked schools are struggling to compete, keep themselves affordable, and provide an ROI. Consequently several traditional two-year programs have closed – notably Thunderbird and Wake Forest. One-year programs and specialized masters are increasingly popular and experiencing increasing recruiter demand along with ROI. For you as a prospective student, you need to focus not on the overall trend in salary increase for MBAs, and not even your ROI today vs what it maybe could have been 13 years ago when you were middle school, but your anticipated return on investment today and which degree is most likely to maximize it. Frankly 92% increase in salary can be a phenomenal increase depending on where you start at and what you paid for it. And it’s the gift that keeps on giving since the increased salary continues and usually climbs annually for the rest of your career. Movie Review The Edge Of Tomorrow - 1116 Words

In the ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ movie, Tom Cruise is playing a character by the name of Cage. He finds himself in the middle of a war against an extraterrestrial enemy who has the ability to reset the day and know the future. Cage finds himself being enabled with that same power as he killed a leading ‘mimic’ in one scene which resulting in the blood being burnt onto Cage s face. From then on, Cage can reset the day if he was murdered or had committed suicide from a specific point in the movie and be able to remember what happened previously. This scene can be related to the idea of free will as it shows that Cage has the ability to keep resetting the day without the need of anyone else’s consent and that if he was to make a mistake or do something he might regret, then he can reset the day for that reason too. Free will is the idea that humans have the ability to do what they desire without any restrictions or constraints. However the issue with free will is that people have different interpretations and tolerance levels when it comes to seeing how free they really are. David Hume believes that the nature of free will is ‘the most contentious question of metaphysics’. A Libertarians approach to free will is that they believe it is a choice which can be made without being determined by prior events and that alternative choices could still have been made with the same conditions. Determinism denies the idea of free will. The different engagements have different meanings, whether they are religious or social. There are three different battles in which Beowulf takes part. The first fight is with Grendel, a grim spirit (25), the second is with Grendels mother, and last one is with the dragon. Early in the poem, everyone is in the mead hall (also known as the Heorot) drinking and carrying on. Grendel, who is described as The creature of evil, grim and fierce (25) is envious because everyone is making noise and having such a good time. Over a period of twelve years, Grendel continuously comes to the mead hall and kills many of the men with each visit. Beowulf hears about the havoc and decides to take action. Beowulf arrives at the mead hall and carefully watches Grendel maneuver when killing the men, so he will have an idea of how to attack when Grendel comes for him. Grendel comes toward Beowulf, and Beowulf grabs his arm and eventually rips it out of the socket and hangs it from the door. Grendel ran home to his mother at the mere. At this point in the poem, Unferth becomes very jealous of Beowulf because he is coming into his territory and taking charge. This battle is not as significant as the next but it helps lead to what happens in the second battle. After Grendel ran to his mother, she got very furious and went to the mead hall. She kidnaps one of King Hrothgars most trusted men and takes down the arm hanging from the door, and then returns to the mere. Beowulf and his men set off to Grendels mothers residence. Beowulf learns that he has to go down under the lake to reach this creature . Unferth gives Beowulf his sword to kill Grendels mother. Beowulf starts swimming down to the bottom of the lake, where her mere is located, and it ends up taking him one day to reach his destination. She sees him coming and drags him to her den. Beowulf pulls out the sword given to him by Unferth, but realizes that she is much more powerful than her son and that the sword does not work. He spots a sword on the side and uses it to kill the raging beast. Grendels body is lying over to the side, so Beowulf decides to cut his head off and take it with him to civilization. While telling the Danes what happened he adds that Grendels mother is some form of the devil. With that he heads back home where he is King for fifty happy years. At the end of the fifty years, a Geat decides to steal a cup from some treasure a dragon has been guarding for three hundred years. The dragon got angry and could not find the guilty party so he goes after the whole town, including Beowulfs house. Beowulf decides to fight the dragon one on one and ends up killing the dragon by sinking the sword in a lower portion of his stomach, shining and engraved (58). Beowulf dies soon after. His dying soon after the fight with the dragon shows that the author wanted Beowulf to die a hero in that he sacrificed his life to save the lives of others just as Christ did. If Beowulf had not died after fighting the dragon he would have eventually lost a fight and the story would not have the same meaning that it does today. There are also several social factors that come into play in this poem. Beowulf was not commonly known as a hero until he decided to come and fight Grendel. After saving the Danes everyone was forever thankful and really appreciated him as the hero he is. The second battle shows the Danes as well as the Geats what kind of hero Beowulf really is. .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf , .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf .postImageUrl , .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf , .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf:hover , .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf:visited , .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf:active { border:0!important; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf:active , .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1f8936552a2e2a062b9eedef7cbdaaaf:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Racial Profiling EssayThe second battle, besides being the most significant, also helped bring religion into the poem Beowulf. Back when this story was written, giants were made to be on the evil side of society. Grendel and Grendels mother both bear a striking likeness to, and may derive from, concepts of a race of cannibalistic giants, (Mellinkoff 183) which would make them evil characters. Cain plays a large role in Christian development for this play, being that One of the most distinctive features of Beowulf is the presentation of Grendel and his mother as members of Cains monstrous progeny (Mellinkoff 143). Many sources believed that Cains evil progeny had survived ( Mellinkoff 183) the flood, which supposedly killed all evil figures. Beowulf realizes how evil Grendels mother is when he fights her.The mother was much more difficult to fight than her son was because she was closer to hell both in that her home was physically closer to hell, and she is closer to the devil in terms of her line of descent. That would lead her to be a descendent of the devil. After fighting Grendels mother down under the lake, and it being so close to the devil, Beowulf felt greater power after defeating this evil force. When getting ready to fight the dragon, Beowulf figured he could defeat anything after the harsh battle he had previously fought. After reviewing all the details of this poem, everything fits into place. This includes the three battles where one is much more significant than the other two, but the other two both play very important roles in the plot of the play. After reading and analyzing there is much more to be discovered than a story with a happy ending. This poem includes different religious aspects, starting with the biblical age and follows up until the poem is written, relating each back to the other. The religious view of Beowulf brings the poems background together. The social status of this poem does not really come across until the end of the poem where Beowulf dies and they give him the most honorable burial ever given.

The office of the Constable is one of the oldest signifiers affecting jurisprudence enforcement. Despite its antiquity. few people have a good apprehension of what a Constable is ; much less specify the functions and maps that the office entails. One possible ground by the deficiency of distinct understanding possibly. could be caused by the varying roles that Constables possess today in assorted provinces all throughout the state. By and big. constables are functionaries of municipal corporations whose chief duty is to keep peace and order of the community. Hence. they are categorized as peace officers. This would sometimes necessitate groking law-offenders. However. much of the undertakings of the modern twenty-four hours Constable focal point on the followup of both civil and condemnable procedures. A Constable can presume the office either through election or assignment. depending on the legislative acts of the province. Nevertheless. irregardless of the path by which he obtained the place. a Constable bases for the citizens in his vicinity ( â€Å"What is a Constable? † ) . Although some provinces in the US provides about the same map as that of a sheriff. most constables possess less power than the latter and undertakings are frequently submitted under the ordinance of the sheriff. Early on records have shown that the Constable’s office had existed since mediaeval history. after the Norman Conquest in 1066 ( â€Å"Constable: History† ) . History traces the constitution of the office through King Alfred of England. when he appointed constables in 871 A. D. However. the rubriccomes( officer )stabuliorstabulum( stable ) is found in the Roman and peculiarly in the Eastern Roman. or Byzantine. Empire from the 5Thursdaycentury AD. with primary military maps. The term derives from the Latincomes stabuli. intending â€Å"count of the stable† . A constable so. was the caput of the stable. From this low beginnings. constables rose to accomplish the differentiation of being main caput of stallss at the imperial tribunal. The office of constable. ( Gallic. connetable ) reappeared under the Capetian Kings of France. The Constable of France is given full charge of the ground forces upon the king’s absence. giving the office much power and distingu ished prominence in society. The Franks borrowed the rubric. and under the Merovingian and Carolingian male monarchs of Western Europe thecomes stabuliwas in charge of the royal he-man. with marshal (marescallus) as his low-level officer. In the 11Thursdaycentury the constable of France became one of the five great officers of province. with limited powers of legal power and with bid of the horse. The constable’s military responsibilities and judicial powers increased until. by the mid-14Thursdaycentury. he held supreme military bid of the ground forces. After the lese majesty of the constable Charles de Bourbon ( 1523 ) . nevertheless. the male monarchs distrusted the power of the office. and for many old ages in the 16Thursdaycentury it was allowed to stay vacant. It was eliminated in 1627. after the decease of Francois de Bonne. Duke de Lesdiguieres. but was revived by Napoleon I. who appointed his brother Louis Bonaparte expansive constable. It was eventually abolished upon the Restoration of the Bour bons. From France. it was passed on to Normandy in the early 11Thursdaycentury. when the rubric was given besides to commanding officers of palaces. Following the Norman Conquest of England. a figure of barons with the rubric of constable began to look in England. The office of constable in England was similar to that of the pre-Conqueststaller. The chief responsibility of the constable and marshal was the bid of the ground forces. The responsibility as a peace-keeping officer began under the regulation of King William the Conqueror ( died 1087 ) . The Constable. together with the office of the Judiciary and Bailiffs. were defined and established through Magna Carta in 1215 ( â€Å"Early History of the Constables† ) . The Magna Carta was the basis for most Torahs and fundamental laws in many parts of English-speaking states. The Court of the Constable and Marshal. besides known as the Court of Chivalry. became mostly known to hold existed through the reign of Edward I ( 1272-1307 ) . One of them belongs to the members of the Bohun household who achieved distinction in the royal family. In the reign of Edward I ( 1100-35 ) . Humphrey de Bohun. Earl of Hereford. gained the rubric of â€Å"Constable of England† . This office passed by matrimony to Thomas of Woodstock. youngest boy of Edward III. who became Duke of Gloucester and exercised great political power under Richard II. With his autumn and decease in 1397 the familial office diminished in importance and power. and upon the executing of Edward Stafford. 3d Duke of Buckingham. in 1521. it became nonextant. The office is now revived merely for enthronement ceremonials ; Lord high constables being appointed merely for this intent. Military officers with of import military bids and in control of forts and palaces were besides know as constables. such as the constables of Windsor. Dover. Caernarvon ( Caernarfon ) . Conway. Harlech. and Flint palaces and of the Tower of London. Sometimes the assignment was coupled with that of curator ( ulterior justness ) of the peace. who assisted the sheriff in implementing the jurisprudence. This gave rise to constable’s exerting civil legal power. Under the Statute of Winchester ( 1285 ) . the civil and military organisations were linked. There were two local constables appointed for maintaining the peace and order in the legal power of every hundred ( or franchise ) tribunal. This legislative act secures every metropolis and town in the land with two constables for each 100 people. and even watchers on dark clip responsibility. This was called the Watch and Ward system. They were responsible for stamp downing public violences and violent offenses and for build uping the reserves to enable him to make so. These were the earliest â€Å"chief constable† or â€Å"high constables† . Their low-level officers were known as â€Å"petty constables† in each tithing. or small town. These constables served without wage and maintain a roll of watchers and enforced other facets of the system. The watchers were to collar leery individuals and warn sleeping citizens at dark of fire and other dangers. As London grew and progressed. a more efficient sort of jurisprudence enforcement became necessary for the metropolis. An act of 1737 required that 68 work forces be paid for street responsibility and that 32 of them serve during the daylight. The early 19Thursdaycentury brought hard times to the quickly turning metropolis. Poverty and dearth increased. Looting and rioting were shortly out of control. The high and junior-grade. or parish. constables remained the executive legal officers in counties until the County Police Acts of 1839 and 1840. which allowed certain justnesss to set up a paid constabulary force. The constabulary system formed by Sir Robert Peel in 1829 was tailored from the early system of constables. although the new force was much larger. better trained. and more extremely subject. The rioting in London was shortly controlled but before long it spread to other countries. The English constables hence were superseded in the 19Thursdaycentury by these paid constabulary forces. although the constable is still the main local jurisprudence enforcement officer in many rural countries of the United States today ( â€Å"Constable† ) . In the rural territories of the United States the constable had the same position as in England before the act of 1842. In the 20Thursdaycentury. the constable bit by bit lost most of his power in condemnable affairs to the uniformed constabulary. The derivative term of â€Å"cops† . which was later used to mention to police officers. is believed to hold come from the initial letters of the words â€Å"constable on patrol† . The office of the Constabulary has besides furnished the alternate term â€Å"Constabulary† for the constabulary force ( â€Å"Police: History of Police Organization† ) . In Scotland organic structures of high constables. formed to transport out such municipal responsibilities as controling public violences. still exist at Edinburgh. Leith. Perth. and Holyroodhouse. the last named being outstanding on province occasions ( â€Å"Constable† ) . The first known constable was during the period of Colonial America which was appointed in Plymouth Colony. His chief duty was to help the Justice of the Peace. who was the caput functionary. While the Justice of the Peace was chiefly assigned to take answerability of both legislative and judiciary affairs. the office of the Constable are responsible to guarantee that orders be carried out and to the full enforced. The office of the Constable was chiefly patterned after the United Kingdom. Upon the country’s independency from British colonial regulation. constables started to go elected in office. Before the upgrading of the system among jurisprudence hatchet mans in the 19Thursdaycentury. the constables were chiefly accountable to set the jurisprudence in force. Their assignment or election is of a specified term of office. and for specific intents. Similar to their opposite numbers in the United Kingdom. the constables in America did non have any salary. nor wore civilian vesture. Alternatively. they would normally obtain payments for every tribunal order served. The place of the constable was provided in the first Fundamental law of the Republic of Vermont ( 1777 ) although any indicant of the office was deleted when it was revised many old ages subsequently and wherein it was besides stripped much of its influence and authorization. In add-on. due to the constitution of the Metropolitan Police. the constable’s responsibilities were bit by bit replaced by the constabulary in municipalities. But the office of the Constable was non wholly eliminated in most province in the US. in contrast to that in UK. Generally. province Torahs bestow some of the authorization of a constable to a police officer such as the right to collar. In many countries today. the office of the constable co-exists with the constabulary force. It is for this ground possibly that the appellation of ‘constable’ has ceased to be used to mention to patrol jurisprudence hatchet mans. Furthermore. in most provinces. constabulary officers do non portion the responsibility of policing the locality which farther causes the constables to be less known or familiar to the local occupants. The map of a Constable may differ from every country of legal power. There are guidelines refering the makings that a individual should possess before he or she can presume the office. Basically. the individual qualified for the place should be a legal citizen of the state. qualified to vote. and should soon be shacking in the vicinity of his assignment. Similarly. the constable’s term of office is greatly affected by the mode in which the officer has assumed the office — whether by election or assignment ; and depending on the vote public’s determination of puting restrictions to the officer’s power. Such power could run from holding the authorization to grok jurisprudence lawbreakers. to strictly taking attention of civil affairs. of giving support to wellness officers. or act as aggregator of revenue enhancements. There is no proviso in the jurisprudence which prohibits a individual from being elected or appointed to the office of the Constable if he or she lacks developing in condemnable justness. What the jurisprudence provides though. are that the electorate organic structure can take whether they will convey limitations to the power of the constable. regardless of the presence or absence of preparation in condemnable justness. This is to protect the components from unneeded injury or cause gratuitous harm to the town’s public assistance. if perchance the elected constable lacks the proper cognition in judicial procedures or preparation. There are serious advantages though of constable officers who possess necessary preparation associating to the occupation. Certified preparation affecting the operation of certain electronic equipment in implementing velocity bounds. and proper preparation in taking blood samples of suspected rummy drivers. could surely beef up the grounds in tribuna l. A constable appointed to the office can be relieved of his place but non until due procedure is carried out. Before a dismissal takes into consequence. the constable is first notified and is presented before the organic structure which selected the constable. The naming organic structure is required to show the evidences for the remotion from office. and the officer in inquiry is given the chance to support himself. In contrast. the selecting boards do non hold the authorization to take a constable elected to the office. The usual term for the office of the Constable is one twelvemonth but could be extended to two old ages if the components of his vicinity ballots to lengthen the term for an extra twelvemonth. Most frequently. a constable must be sworn in earlier transporting out his duties as a jurisprudence hatchet man. In some instances. a bond is required before a individual can presume the responsibilities of being a constable. But a constable is non given autonomies to pass the town’s financess. The elected and appointed constables function independently from each other. neither one playing as superior from the other. Their legal power does non frequently embrace the whole province but is frequently restricted to the town’s boundary lines. The constable must besides subject to the higher authorization of the sheriff or the caput of disposal in his country ( â€Å"Constable: Functions and Responsibilities† ) . Examples of Legal Duties: The constable in Alabama receives the place through election. His country of legal power encompasses the whole county. every bit good as being able to to the full exert the authorization or power to collar all throughout the State of Alabama. Furthermore. a constable is responsible in implementing traffic regulations issued by the province. every bit good as condemnable codifications with the exclusion in Etowah and Jefferson counties. Constables in Alabama besides act as forest warden. assisting control or set off fires. In add-on. they besides help ease in the processing of legislative affairs. The office of constable in Alabama do non have allocation of wages. alternatively the province provides that the jurisprudence wrongdoer is responsible to pay the constable. The constable does non have fiscal aid from the province of Alabama for preparations. uniforms and equipments in relation to the occupation ( â€Å"What Constables Do† ) . The office of the constable in the State of Arizona is an indispensable component of the judicial system. Constables in this province are besides elected and work in the processing of the orders issued by the tribunal. Duties and duties include service processing of writs. biddings of civil and condemnable instances. and other orders given by the tribunal. They are besides in charge of belongingss under province detention. The revised Statue 22-131 A of Arizona requires the constable to â€Å"attend the tribunals of justness of the peace within their precincts when required†¦ . † and assigns the state’s consultative council to give the necessary preparation for constables to properly transport his responsibilities. Constables can besides hold the authorization to delegate employees such as clerks or deputies that could help him in executing the issues refering his office. although such assignments must be submitted and capable to the blessing of the board of superv isors. Constables are under the supervising of sheriffs ( â€Å"Statue 22-131: Powers and Duties† ) . The restructuring of the province tribunals in California had caused the decrease of the figure of constables working within the province. Most of the functions and responsibilities of the office of the constable was integrated by the map of the constabulary force. The staying few constables in California are besides involved in patrol work aside from the service of treating tribunal orders. Constables assume the office by either assignment of the presiding justice or through election. The State of Connecticut has constables under two classs: the appointed and elected. The province appoints constables in towns that do non hold equal constabularies force and helps transport out the responsibilities of a condemnable jurisprudence hatchet man. On the other manus. elected constables take attention of functioning civil procedures. Voters elect their constables every two to four old ages. In Delaware. the map of the constable is comparable to that of the sheriff except that it has less authorization and range of legal power. The office of the constable in the State of Delaware existed even during the colonial period. Today. constables carry out the responsibilities of treating tribunal orders and warrants every bit good as keeping peace of the province. They can grok individuals who breach the jurisprudence. aid oversee the peace and order during elections. and assist implement province Torahs. In 1986. the office of the codification enforcement created the office of the constable. Such jurisprudence enforcement functionaries were appointed to oversee affairs refering province regulations such as lodging. wellness and sanitation ( â€Å"Constable† ) . The Chief Magistrate Judge functioning in the counties are authorized by the province to name constables. Aside from being required to give attending before tribunal Sessionss in the Magistrate Court. constables process the aggregation and payment and other affairs associating to the office of the tribunal. Constables appointed in counties do non hold the power to collar unless the tribunal grants a tribunal warrant or within the presence and directive of the tribunal justice. In Kentucky. the power or authorization of constables differ from each of its counties. The constable’s Scopess of responsibilities are established by the county’s justice. Some constables are granted full constabulary powers. Such constables in these counties could have allocation for uniforms. patrol vehicles. and other equipments. Other counties in Kentucky do non give such autonomies to their constables. and some do non even receive proviso for uniforms or patrol autos. In the 1960’s there was a important diminution of the figure of constables in Kentucky. The General Assembly passed an regulation in 1998 that gives salary accommodation of constables ( owed by rising prices ) trusting to do the office more desirable. Constables holds authorization within the boundary lines of the county of legal power. Constables are normally citizens with honest reputes who are acute for public service. However. the office has been subjected sometimes to corruptness ( â€Å"What is a Constable? † ) . The province of Maine requires aspirers for constables to undergo proper preparation. Upon completion of the preparation class. the full-pledged constables are given police powers and carry through all the responsibilities performed by a constabulary functionary. Constables can transport out service of judicial procedure within the metropolis or town in which he or she is assigned. Constables in Massachusetts are either elected or appointed. State jurisprudence besides calls for constables to set up a bond in contrast to Deputy Sheriffs. in order to function its functions and duties ( R. Ramponi. â€Å"Constables in Massachusetts ) . Constables in Michigan are largely appointed and whose authorization is limited upon the county of which he or she is assigned. Merely less than 10 % of Michigan’s towns maintain on electing constables. They are given the authorization to function civil and condemnable warrants. the latter merely as directed by the Township Board. Constables serve as a ministerial decision maker of the tribunal ( â€Å"Constable Powers† ) . Mississippi province jurisprudence appropriates one constable for every tribunal territory in every county. Every constable’s chief responsibility is to protect its citizens from offense and keep the peace in his assigned county. Constables in Mississippi do non have fees upon the service of judicial procedures. Constables are required to subject to preparations related to his responsibilities during his term of office. Completion of the preparation does non subject the constable for physical fittingness trial. The county’s board of supervisors is responsible for merely paying one time. of the preparations that constables are required to carry through. Failure to go to the needed preparation causes the constable to blackball his rights for compensation. Furthermore. he or she is required to carry through other preparations at his ain disbursal ( â€Å"Mississippi Code of 1972: Sec. 19-19-5. General Duties of Constables ; Training Program† ) . Constables in Nevada assume the office by the public’s ballots. Qualifications for both elected and appointed constables include being above the age of 21 old ages. an voter. and had neer been convicted of any jurisprudence misdemeanors in any province. A constable’s compensation is determined by the board of county commissioners. This organic structure of commissioners is besides authorized to name constables at any clip. if needed ( â€Å"Constables: Qualifications and Compensations† ) . Like in most other province in the US. constables in New Jersey are by and large considered as peace officers. However. the province has curtailed some of its powers and authorization refering police maps. Much of their undertakings concentrate more on treating judicial paper plants and execution of civil Torahs. Under New York province Torahs. constables are defined as officers of jurisprudence enforcement. However. their authorization and power vary from every country of legal power. with some towns cut downing some powers normally relegated to jurisprudence enforcement officers. There are some towns in Ohio in which constables besides act as constabulary officers. Others act as officers of the tribunal. Constables are appointed. and most countries require them to post bonds every bit good as undergo preparations refering to patrol plants. They besides carry responsibilities of functioning tribunal orders and have the power to collar jurisprudence surfs. In Pennsylvania. the public elects its constables to function a six-year term of office. There are besides constables who assume the office by assignment. The province jurisprudence positions constables. irregardless of beginning. chiefly as peace officers. However. when he or she has wholly complied with all the needed preparations. are given authorization to carry through the responsibilities of a jurisprudence hatchet man of the tribunal. A constable may name deputies to help his work but is capable to the blessing of the President Judge. Since they are an elective functionary. they are comparatively free from the influence of other regulating organic structures. impartial to outdo satisfy the intent of justness. A constable in this province is given full power of apprehension in conformity to his responsibility as a peace officer. Constables get elected in office to function a four twelvemonth term. matching to the presidential election. In some counties of Tennessee. some campaigners for the office of the constable requires that all aspirers be free from partiality and must run as an independent campaigner. However. other counties do non keep such limitations. Article 5. Section 18 of the Texas Constitution assigns a constable for every precinct in every county of the province. Such constables are elected by the populace. A county with large populations may even hold eight precincts. Elected constables serve civil procedure within his country of legal power every bit good as any adjoining counties. Their power to function warrants is permitted all throughout the province of Texas. Constables in Vermont are normally elected by the town. They are assigned to execute responsibilities with service of procedure. destroy unaccredited Canis familiariss. dispersion of boisterous assemblages. or take boisterous individuals. In towns where there are no revenue enhancement aggregators. constables assume such responsibilities. In general. constables have full authorization to implement the jurisprudence but can be modified through votation of the town’s components. A Constable of the Tower of London still exists today. But in general. the United Kingdom’s legal system assigns legal responsibilities such as the power to collar or keep the peace and order of the public under his or her legal power. although there are normally duties added to it. Those sworn in to the office have authorization independent from the constabulary —- traveling beyond the map of a mere agent of the constabulary. All constabulary officers sworn in to office in UK are besides moving as constables since it is given that the constabulary force obtains their authorization from the office of the Constable. The head of the constabulary force in a vicinity is sometimes called Senior Constable but this does non keep true in the United Kingdom. In New South Wales. Leading Senior Constable does non mention to a high superior place but to a impermanent place under preparation. There were â€Å"special† or â€Å"petty† constables that used to map before. nevertheless such undertakings were already reassigned to the responsibilities of constabulary officers ( â€Å"Constable† ) . Every parish would vote for a constable that would stand for their vicinity in the legislative organic structure in Jersey. Assorted commissions are headed by the elective constables such as the Roads Committee. All in all. there are 12 constables who form the Committee of Constables. Writing in My Diary Essay Example For Students

Writing in My Diary Essay Dear Beloved Diary, I recall the moment when my friend returned after years of trading fur in the West as a Mountain man. His stories of riches in the West convinced my parents to trek away from our lovely home in New York to reach a place unknown to me. I gathered my very few belongings and helped Ma pack some of the food for the long journey ahead of us on the Oregon Trail. This is now a part of my very distant past. We have been traveling for five weeks now and have struggled to overcome obstacles. For about a week we have had a food shortage and I am forced to eat in very small portions. Unfortunately, my father injured his arm and is now unable to hunt. Ma and I try to make due with just berries and plants we see along the way. We have had to cross rivers which has caused us to lose a grand majority of our supplies. Along the way, we have met many new people who all travel for different reasons. Some hope to find riches, others are in search of freedom. We met a family of Mormons who had been denied the right to practice their religious duties. I met their eldest daughter Emily, who like me is terrified of the journey ahead of us. We will write a custom essay on Writing in My Diary specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Dearest Diary, We settled in Oregon Country, where we lived for only three months. My family and I disliked the overpopulation and decided to move all the way to Texas. My father said that the government promised to grant each family that settled in Texas a large piece of land. Of course a child of my age ponders of what life in Texas will be like. My father answered every question I threw at him. He told me that Texas wanted to gain independence from Mexico. To gain independence he explained to me that the people begun a revolution. He said about 5 years ago there were two important battles that helped them gain complete independence. One battle was in the Alamo, where a small number of rebels fought against a large Mexican army. Months later, they captured Santa Anna leading to their independence. Ma, father and I now live in an independent Texas. I hope that 1842 brings me many new adventures to conquer. I am very excited to be living in Texas where we have enough land to plant crops to trade with other families. Dear Lovely Diary, Im well aware I havent written in you for years. It is just, once grown, one puts away childish things. I come back to you, to tell you that I now have a little sister to care for that just recently turned 14 born in 1843. Charlotte is a handful, she dances, prances, and sings until mother calls for dinner time. Every night, my father calls us close to the fire to tell us stories and tales on what is happening outside of Texas. Tonight he tells us about Manifest Destiny. He tells us the great desire that America has to declare land near the Pacific Ocean.

Australian republican debate 1999 - and the medias role

Australian republican debate 1999 - and the medias role The Australian media played a huge role in providing information to the Australian public during the republic debate that waged before the referendum in November 1999. By focusing on certain issues and particular people and failing to give the Australian public information on all of the issues of the debate, the Australian media helped sway the publics' opinion and therefore the out come of the referendum.During the constitution convention held in 1998 people representing many different groups concerned with the republic debate argued the main issues of this matter, and eventually came up with the blueprint of the proposed republic debate to be voted on by the people of Australia. The main issues that were discussed during the constitution convention were; the nomination and election of the president and the procedure that would be employed for this, the dismissal procedure of the president, the definition of powers the president would hold and the changes that would be made to the c onstitution and preamble.Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke in the Pentago...Out of these issues the Australian media focused mainly on the nomination and election procedure of the president and the powers the president would hold. These issues were not only seen as newsworthy because of their importance to the republic debate, but because of the emotions and controversy they held. The issues were sensationalised as the major lobbying groups of the republic debate struggled to persuade the people of Australia on how to vote. The most controversial issue of the time was that of the election procedure of the president. The division between the direct election supporters and the indirect election supporters was debated in the morning newspapers, on the daytime radio and on the nightly news. The reason this argument was so sensationalised in the Australian media was that it split party lines. The republic...

Leonardo da Vinci, the Renaissance Man

Leonardo da Vinci, the Renaissance Man Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452 in Vinci, Tuscany. He was the epitome of the term Renaissance man during the High Italian Renaissance. Any subject- and there were many- toward which he directed his insatiable curiosity, artistic talent, and keen scientific mind found itself dissected, improved upon and cataloged for posterity. Leonardo, truly, was a man before his time. Obstacles cannot crush me. Every obstacle yields to stern resolve. He who is fixed to a star does not change his mind.- Leonardo da Vinci Early Life Though illegitimate, Leonardo was taken in and raised by his father. A child of unearthly beauty, Leonardo showed precocious genius in math, music, and art. His greatest desire was to be apprenticed to a painter, a profession which was looked down upon at the time. Eventually, his father was worn down by the boys undeniable talent and took him to Florence to study painting, sculpting, and engineering under the great Andrea del Verrocchio. Leonardo quickly outstripped his master (though he continued to study with Verrocchio until around 1476) and was admitted to the Florence painters guild in 1472. Body of Work Leonardo spent about twenty years in the service of Lodovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan (who frequently neglected to pay Leonardo). His output during this period included two of his best-known paintings: The Madonna of the Rocks (1483-85) and the mural The Last Supper (1495-98). When Milan was seized by French troops in 1499, Leonardo returned to Florence. It was here that he painted one of the most famous portraits of all time, The Mona Lisa, more correctly known as La Gioconda (1503-06). Leonardo spent his later years moving between Florence, Rome, and France, working on a variety of projects. He lived long enough to be appreciated and well-paid, a rarity among artists. Throughout it all, he kept prodigious notebooks, in mirror writing, to keep track of his ideas, designs, and numerous sketches. Leonardo eventually settled in France, at the invitation of Francis I, an ardent admirer. He died on May 2, 1519, in the castle of Cloux, near Amboise, France.

Inventory Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Inventory - Essay Example After a long time use of the time series forecasting method, the company should now adopt a new strategic plan, which should enable it to penetrate its market deeper. It is not safe for the company to rely on its historical data alone in the prediction of its future needs when considering demand. Therefore, the qualitative forecasting method is the best method applicable by the company. This will ensure that the company knows the likely direction to be taken by its customers in the consumption of its goods; and adjust appropriately to cater for the views of the consumers. Besides the techniques already listed in the abstract, there are other forecasting techniques available and already in operation. They are each used in line with the future need that a company requires. Therefore, before using any of these methods, consider the time of preparation, cost, and accuracy of the technique. These techniques make different assumptions in their operation (Makridakis, Wheelwright, & Hyndman, 1998). In addition to the already mentioned methods are Regression methods, which involve the extension of linear regression that is a variable, linearly relates to some other independent variables. The other method of forecasting used is the multiple equation methods, which involve some variables that are dependent interacting with each other in a number of equations. This method receives proper application in the economic models of forecasting. These techniques have their basis on human judgment in the forecasting of the planned future of a given company. Therefore, these methods are said to be subjective based on the judgments and opinions given by the experts and the consumers. These techniques apply to the decisions that are intermediate and long range. They can be used in the creation of forecasts that are short term and can supplement projections,

Nike and Human Rights Essay

1. What ethical issues faced by MNCs in their treatment of foreign workers could bring allegations of misconduct in their operations? †¢Ethical issues may include the violation of fundamental human rights of ‘sweatshop’ workers such as freedom, speech and discrimination. The treatment of their workers could be deemed ‘unethical’ by media who construe this view to consumers. Such allegations can and will have damaging effects with Nike having been taken to court already in the past. 2. Would the use of third-party independent contractors insulate MNCs from being attacked? Would that practice offer MNCs a good defensive shield against charges of abuse of â€Å"their employees†? †¢Not necessarily, as Nike will be using labour which is just managed by another party. They would just be shifting the blame of abusing â€Å"their employees† to hiring someone else’s. The connection of the brand to any unethical labour will still be damaging regardless of whether they are directly related or not. 3. Do you think that statements by companies that describe good social and moral conduct in the treatment of their workers are part of the image those companies create and therefore are part of their advertising message? Do consumers judge companies and base their buying decision on their perceptions of corporate behaviour and values? Is the historic â€Å"made in† question (e.g., â€Å"Made in the USA†) now being replaced by a â€Å"made by† inquiry (e.g., â€Å"Made by Company X† or â€Å"Made for Company X by Company Y†)? †¢I think that good social and moral conduct is an inaugural part of the advertising and marketing message of any brand. In these times more consumers are moving to seek ethically sourced products (such as fair trade coffee), this includes worker conditions and perceptions the consumer may have of the company’s corporate activities. The ‘made in’ question is not necessarily being replaced by ‘made by’ it is more likely that both questions are beginning to be asked in conjunction with one another. 4. Given the principles noted in the case, how can companies comment on their positive actions to promote human rights so that consumers will think well of them? Would you propose that a company (a) do nothing, (b) construct a corporate code of ethics, (c) align itself with some of the universal covenants or compacts prepared by international agencies? †¢It would be wise for Nike to develop a corporate code of ethics to help foster what is seen as acceptable standards within the company and its operations. It would also be beneficial to comply with international practice standards. 5. What does Nike’s continued financial success, in spite of the lawsuit, suggest about consumers’ reactions to negative publicity? Have American media and NGOs exaggerated the impact of a firm’s labour practices and corporate social responsibility on its sales? How should managers of an MNC respond to such negative publicity? †¢Nike’s continued success suggests that consumers may not be as deterred by negative publicity as it has been suggested. Nike still remains one of the biggest global brands today and perhaps the value of the label is stronger than damaging publicity. American media and NGOs may have sensationalised the impact of CSR on sales to some extent, although it is deemed important by some consumers, it seems that demand for Nike good remains strong regardless as many are more swayed by celebrity endorsements than working conditions. Managers of MNCs should respond to unfavourable publicity fixing the exposed issue, undertaking community outreach programs, and implementing pre-emptive measures to ensure that bad publicity will not be an issue in the future.

The impact to Iran over the past 34 years is a zcountry that is isolated from not only the Middle East but also the international community. Only through a bilateral diplomatic effort will the United States convince Iran to change its foreign policy. The focus of the bilateral discussions is Iran’s nuclear program and the right to enrich uranium and an easing of the crippling sanctions on the Iranian economy. There is a belief Iran is amiable to discussing a inherent right to enrichment uranium as outlined in the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, while seeking relief from the mandated United States and United Nations sanctions. Kenneth Waltz’s article â€Å"Why Iran Should Get the Bomb: Nuclear Balancing Would Mean Stability†, outlines why â€Å"punishing a state through economic sanctions does not inexorably derail its nuclear program.† The Sanctions placed against Iran have been largely successful for the United States, whereas our diplomatic strategy has not been as successful.
